Makitanigama
Makitanigama is a Tottori prefecture based ceramic studio. Makitani is the name of location, and ‘gama’ comes for oven. The creator, Yoshikuni Sugimoto, design unique and natural ceramics by using the special method called “Nerikomi”. Nerikomi means mixing and blending, and all of the creations of Sugimoto represents geometric such as ginghams. Makitanigama ceramics are not painted, the patterns come from the actual layers of clays. After making it a chunk, it’s sliced and shaped into pieces. Thus the patterns are shown on the backside as well..
